The establishment of the Black Hawk Motorcycle Club in 1941 seemed like a natural progression for a group of friends on their Harleys because gathering at Tibbits’ Harley-Davidson on Saturday mornings and riding together on Sundays was something they did anyway. The formation of the club made things official. A uniform of a green jacket with an eagle emblem was implemented and meetings were held at Tibbits’ once a week with members numbering around forty. Since the Black Hawk Motorcycle Club was sponsored by Tibbits’ Harley-Davidson, it was a "brand only" club. Members rode various types of Harleys, including sidecars, forty-five cubic inch solos, and the larger sixty-one cubic inch models. The primary function of the club was to hold and attend motorcycle races as a group. They traveled throughout the Midwest to hillclimbs, scrambles races, and enduros, as well as road rides.
