In 1872, Danish Baptists in Cedar Falls started a missionary campaign in the area. In November of 1878 the 1st Danish Baptist Church was organized, however, many people called it the second Baptist Church because there was already one Baptist Church in town. In 1917 they built a new building which still stands on Main Street today. The 1st Danish Baptist Church officially changed to Cavalry Baptist Church in 1923, but it wasn't until 1927 that the service was first given in English. They still kept the minutes for all business meetings in Danish for three more years after that. In the 1980's, Cavalry Baptist merged with an evangelical free congregation to become the 1st Evangelial Free Church. They still use the same building that was built by the Danish Baptists in 1917.
