This church was started in 1858 by area Baptists in the old schoolhouse.  The church bought the schoolhouse in 1864 and then built a new structure on the lot in 1865.  Because of the loan the church had taken out to build the new building and lack of a pastor, 1st Baptist nearly closed its doors in the late 1800's.  After many struggles and a lot of fundraising, the church was able to stay afloat.  It has served the community of Cedar Falls ever since.  The present building was built in 1963 and dedicated in 1964.
