Originally called the Winslow House, the Black Hawk Hotel was first built in 1853 by J.H. Winslow.  It was one of the first and only hotels in Cedar Falls.  By 1900, there were five hotels in the town.  Of these original five, the Black Hawk is the only one still in operation.
