* At the grand opening in 1853, the beds for the rooms still had not shown up. Townspeople brought in their own beds to donate.
* In the 1930's, Civil War veteran Joe Foster gave Thanksgiving dinners to needy children in the Hotel's banquet room.
* During the Depression, some people lived in the Hotel for a time. Among these included Harold Smith, who ran the liquor store, the above mentioned Joe Foster, and old Auggie (Lawther ghost?), who would fish off the bridge outside the hotel.
* On the day the Vietnam War ended, two construction workers found an oppossum in a field and put it under a friend's bed. It was found in room 217 after it had been caught in a box spring mattress. The Humane Society eventually released it.
