In 1910 Edward Mason sold his share of the company to Fred Maytag in the hopes that people would buy a "Maytag" car for the same reason they would buy a washer, for the quality. 1910 was the height of production, and 200 cars were built. By the time production had ended in 1911, around 1,000 cars had been manufactured.

In 1911 Fred Maytag decided to get out of the automotive industry while he still had enough money to invest in his washing machine company and still keep the name Maytag a quality name. On January 15, 1912, the Maytag-Mason Auto Co. name was changed to the Mason Motor Co. at a meeting of stockholders. The business was then directed by H.W. Hayden, W.R. Wallace, and E.R. Mason. The name was changed due to the fact that Fred Maytag sold his stock back to Mason, because he had lost too much money already and he decided to focus more on his washer and dryer business.
