Back Background Classic Neoclassical and Gothic Beaux Arts Federal Italianate

    The "Union Block" building shown above, is a prime illustration of the Federal Style.  The fanlight and brackets along the roof line brings forth two of this style's main characteristics.  Along with these features, lies the common windows, displayed in the current facade.  It is interesting to note that in the original exterior, the windows were framed by moldings of Italianate design.

Federal Themes

Formal, symmetrical exterior.
Low hip or gable roof.
Entrance with fanlight, sidelights, and pilasters.
Simple window frames.
Balustrade across front of roof.
