Aviation in the Waterloo-Cedar Falls area has a long, storied history. The early years of aviation in Cedar Falls saw the second airmail drop in the United States, the first airline in Iowa, and the beginnings of the flying career for a nationally known air race pilot. The first glimpse of aviation in Waterloo area occurred in 1905. Legendary aviation pioneer Glenn Curtis flew an exhibition at-Cedar Falls while on his way to fame in the science of airplane design.
