On August 5,1976, Melichar retired from the position of director after forty-seven years of service. Anton Lund became director after Melichar and directed the band from 1977 to 1983. Dennis Downs succeeded Lund and has directed the band since 1984.

    Throughout its long history the Cedar Falls Band was consistently recognized as one of the best bands in the country and continues to live up to that reputation today. The band still plays in many local celebrations and events and gives weekly concerts during the summer.
