The first season of the Cotton Theater was one of its busiest.  December was perhaps the busiest month for the Cotton as it showed nine plays.  Musicals and comedies were commonly shown at the Cotton.  Vaudeville and follies were also presentations that were performed during the first season of the Cotton.  One noted example was the performance of "Billy."  This performance was about a college football star.  The audience enjoyed the show including the football team from the Iowa State Teacher's College.  The football team loved the show so much that the passed football to the leading role, Frank G. King.  According to author Wayne E. Silka, "Frank King appreciated the gesture.  He also said that the Cotton Theatre was a very good stage to work on because it was large enough, there were enough properties, and the acoustics were excellent.

However, the Cotton's next two seasons proved to be a challenge.
